The A3 Hindhead Tunnel Northbound has been closed by Officers from Surrey Roads Policing following a serious Road traffic Collision involving a single vehicle near to Thursley.
Fire crews from Two counties attended the collision appliances from Surrey and Hampshire attended the incident near to the Thursley off slip.
Fire Crews used cutting equipment to free a female who was trapped in the vehicle that had left the road. Crewsremoved the windscreen and the driver door to freee the woman who has been rushed to hospitial by ambulance
Police are working to try and free trapped drivers by turning vehicles around. Local diversion routes have also been put into place and the northbound carriageway of the tunnel remains closed.
A number of ambulances from South East Coast ambulance service have also sent to the incident that happened just after 9pm on Thursday evening.
Highways and Police are trying to free drivers who are trapped in the Tunnel and on the Northbound carriageway.
A spokesman for Highways England said that the closure is likely to be in place for sometime whilst Police accident investigators carryout an examination of the scene and the vehicle is recovered they have given an estimated time of 6.15am on Friday morning for the effected road to be reopened. The A3 is closed northbound between the A325 and A283 near Milford.The emergency services are on scene working. Traffic heading northbound is being diverted via the ‘Solid Diamond’ diversion route. From the A3 Longmoor off slip take the 1st exit from the roundabout onto the A325. Follow the A325 along its entire length to the A31/A325 roundabout at Farnham. Take the 3rd exit and join the A31 towards Farnham. Follow the A31 to the Shepherd and Flock roundabout. At the roundabout, use the 3rd exit and continue for approximately 7 miles on the A31 towards Guildford. On the approach to the A3, use the lane marked for the A3 (London) to rejoin the A3 northbound.
Road users are advised to allow plenty of extra time for their journeys and may wish to consider using an alternative route if possible.
A Surrey Police Spokesman said :We are currently dealing with a serious collision which took place on the A3 at Thursley earlier tonight (19 October).
Officers were called to the northbound carriageway around 9.10pm following reports of a single vehicle collision involving a black Renault Clio.
The female driver was trapped following the crash and had to be freed by fire crews. She has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The carriageway, including the Hindhead Tunnel, remains closed while emergency services deal with the incident.
