Police have closed a major road in Guildford this evening after a car left the road and hit a tree.
The incident happened just before 9pm this evening (3rd November) on the A322 near to the junction of Cobbett Hill Road on the outskirts of Guildford.
Fire crews cut the driver free using specialist cutting equipment and the driver was treated at the scene by paramedics.
Police said that the incident is serious and the driver has been left fighting for his life.
Collision scene investigators from Surrey Police are now carrying out investigation work.
Officers from Surrey Roads Policing Unit www.ambien-online-now.com have said that the road is likely to be closed for some time and that drivers should seek alternative routes.
Officers Issued the following : We are appealing for witnesses following a serious one vehicle collision on Aldershot Road in Worplesdon this evening, Thursday 3 November.
At approximately 8.40pm a red Toyota collided with a tree just prior to Cobbetts Hill junction.
The driver, a 29-year-old man, has been taken to St Georges Hospital with a serious head injury.
The road is closed from Guildford Road to Huntshill Road while officers carry out and investigation of the scene.
