Drink driver sentenced after being found slumped over his steering wheel

A Frimley man has pleaded guilty after being arrested for drink-driving as part of Surrey Police’s annual Christmas crackdown.

Craig Deeprose, 34, of White Wood Vale, was arrested in the early hours of 7 December after being seen by officers to be slumped over the wheel of his car with the engine running, on Old Bisley Road in Camberley.

When asked by officers what he was doing in the vehicle, he stated that he was about to drive home and went through the motions to drive off. His car was also littered with opened and unopened cans of alcohol.

Due to his behaviour, Deeprose was arrested on suspicion of being unfit to drive through drink or drugs and taken into custody.

After an inconclusive breathalyser test, a blood test was taken and Deeprose was charged with driving with 207mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood – the legal limit being 80mg.

He pleaded guilty when he appeared at Guildford Magistrates’ Court on 13 March. He was disqualified from driving for 36 months, ordered to pay £85 in costs and £95 in victim surcharge. He was also ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work
